But before we get to the Giveaway, a little about City of Bones (for those of you who haven’t seen the Wicked-Awesome Movie Trailer!)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Synopsis:
When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder—much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It’s hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing—not even a smear of blood—to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?
This is Clary’s first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It’s also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace’s world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know. . .
Review:
I have to admit, I read this series right after I finished Twilight (back when the first Twilight movie came out). I was strolling through Borders and saw these books prominently displayed on an endcap with praise from Stephenie Meyers all over the front covers. So I HAD to have them!
The first thing that grabbed my attention was Clary’s insatiable curiosity. From the start, I could NOT put this book down! From the magic system to the supernatural creatures, throw in some awesome action scenes, and of course, budding romances. Ah! This book was just filled with juicy yumminess, complex characters, an expanding storyline, twists and turns and surprises, hidden cities, tasty teases, and snarky supernaturals! The author is SO GOOD at writing scenes that got my heart pounding and blood flowin’! Seriously, I got so sucked in to this story that I forbade myself from reading it on my lunch break at work. No, for this story, I wanted the comfort of my own home so I could gasp, shudder, cry, laugh, smirk, and fantasize!
I will say, I was totally miffed at the ending. I won’t go into details. I’m sure a lot of you out there already know the part I’m talking about. So yeah, I was pretty peeved at Clare for doing that to her readers. Still, I’m a romantic at heart and hoped that the author would eventually reveal something, whether it be some twist, some magical act, whatever – to mend the tortured heart I was vicariously experiencing through Clary. So, naturally, I jumped right in to the second book, City of Ashes.
Obviously the book has received a strong following being that it has hit the Big Screen!
    • These are fantastic! I waited to read them until only book 7 was left to be released – I finished them in a month’s time. It only took me 2 days to get through the 7th book (and that’s with working 8 hours at my regular job)! Great answer 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!
    • I agree! I can’t wait to see the second movie! Which was your favorite book in the series? I liked the 2nd the best. The 3rd was okay, but the ending was a little weak and took forever to wrap up i.m.o. 🙂 Thanks for checking out These are but Shadows!
  2. My favorites are The Vampire Diaries, Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, and Twilight! Thanks for the giveaway!
    • Haven’t read The Vampire Diaries, but I’ve heard great things about them. As I said above, I’m a big fan of HP & HG! And, I admit, I totally fell prey to the cult of Twilight. So, are you team Edward or team Jacob? Thanks for commenting and good luck!
    • Do you like old-school, villainous vampires? Or the suave hair, sparkly ones? 🙂 Glad you swung by and entered the giveaway! Thanks for the comment!
    • I had to read Great Gatsby in high school, and I think it’s for that reason – because it was forced and dissected – that I didn’t find it interesting. I have yet to re-read it, and haven’t seen the movie, even though I am a Leo fan! Have you seen the movie yet?
    • Haven’t read the Vampire Academy, but heard good things about it. I LOVED Divergent and Insurgent and have pre-ordered my copy of Allegiant 🙂 Looking forward to whether the movie adaptation will do the series justice – fingers crossed!
  4. Although I haven’t read the book I loved “The Perks of Being a Wallflower”!!!
    and I also love watching Vampire Diaries, although I havent read any of the books.
    Thanks for the giveaway
    • I must live under a rock. I’ve seen “Perks of Being a Wallflower” being offered on other blogs that are part of this Books to Movies Giveaway Hop, but I haven’t ever heard of it before!
    • *Sigh* I have not read, nor seen, Pride and Prejudice. The book sits on my shelf and I keep meaning to read the classic, but other books constantly butt in line. One of these days I’ll pick it up, I’m sure 🙂
    • I do love that movie, but haven’t read the book. Don’t know if you can tell from my other comments, but I don’t really read many classics. I should remedy that 🙂
  5. The Twilight saga is my favorite so far. I haven’t read City of Bones yet, but I want to and can’t wait to see the movie! Thank you for the chance to win this great giveaway! 🙂 Good luck to all & Happy Reading 🙂
    • You didn’t say above, so I MUST ask…are you team Edward or team Jacob? If you like Twilight, then you’re going to LOVE The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare!
    • Would you believe that I have NOT seen the Shining from start to finish? I always seem to turn it on at the Red-Rum part…that or when Nicholson is crazed and chasing the kid through the maze with the axe! But I’m a huge wimp when it comes to scary movies!
    • VERY good response! I just watched The Hobbit for the first time. I know a lot of people were disappointed with it, and were disgruntled that the shortest book of the story was getting turned into into a 3-part movie. But I REALLY enjoyed it!
      And you can’t go wrong with Anne Rice meets Tom Cruise & Brad Pitt!
  6. Since it’s the most recent movie I’ve seen …I’d say Hunger Games.
    The Help is another good one.
  7. This is a tough question…I would go with Pamela Clare’s romantic suspense series that starts with Extreme Exposure (I-team #1). There are 6 books so far but more are planned 🙂
  8. My favorite show adaption would probably be The Vampire Diaries. I love Ian Somerhalder! 😀 My favorite movie adaption would probably be Perks of Being a Wallflower.
  9. I just started City of Bones and it is amazing!! My all time favorite has got to be Harry Potter, but there are so many others that are close 2nd’s. 🙂
  10. I have so many favorite books to movies that It would take half the night to list them. Dune, The Princess Bride, Blade Runner, East of Eden, and so many more.
