The Lost Cactus by David Jamieson

Lost Cactus

This book may be better received by the 12-15 age range. While the widespread message appears to be protect mother earth from global warming, and the story itself is charming in the employment of talking animals that can morph into humans and back again, this book really didn’t hold my interest. Moreover, the females in the story swing so hot and cold it seemed like the author really didn’t spend much time developing them. While the story seemed to meander and include aspects that really could have been omitted for a tighter tale, it seemed the ending was thrown together rather quickly. On a positive note, I did enjoy the banter back and forth between the Guardian and his umbrella-wand. I really wanted to like this book, but it just didn’t do it for me.

Overall rating 2 out of 5 stars.
Appropriate for ages 12 and up.
